When we started Flourish, we had a vision of making plant care feel a little less complicated and a lot more enjoyable! We’ve talked with so many of you about your plants—your triumphs, your “oops” moments, and your dreams of indoor jungles that thrive in real life, not just on your vision boards.
And through all those conversations, one issue kept coming up: soil.
Why We Made Our Own
Like many plant parents, we’ve spent years combing through garden centers and hardware stores, testing blends that claimed to be “all-purpose” but ended up compacting too quickly, draining too fast, or simply missing the mark. The market seemed to be swinging to extremes—ultra-specific mixes for every plant under the sun, or single-ingredient solutions that left beginners overwhelmed and seasoned growers unimpressed.
We kept asking ourselves: Why isn’t there a soil that just... works?
A soil that’s good for your snake plant and your pothos. That holds moisture but doesn’t drown roots. That’s simple enough for a first-time plant parent and trustworthy enough for someone who knows their root rot from their rootbound.
So we decided to make it ourselves.
What Makes Our Soil Different
We started with what plants actually need—structure, moisture, nutrients, and some bioactivity (yes living soil is a really good thing!). Then we went on a deep search for ingredients that checked every box, and aligned with our values. That meant effectiveness and sustainability.
One of the key ingredients in our blend is sphagnum peat moss, prized for its unbeatable moisture retention. But traditional peat sourcing can come at a cost to the environment. We didn’t want that. So we found a North American grower who not only meets the highest certification standards, but also actively replants harvested bogs, manages for carbon capture, and treats their land as a long-term environmental asset—not a resource to deplete.
Pair that with our signature plant food, and you’ve got a dream team: soil that anchors healthy roots, and nutrients that fuel lush, vibrant growth from the bottom up.
